Birthday Book Haul

So January is my birthday month. So I kinda always go overboard with how many books I buy or get gifted this month so this is why I’m doing two book hauls this month because I obviously don’t want this post to be super long. So the first haul will be about the books I got for my birthday or that I bought myself because it was my birthday. So here we go.

Target-I received  a gift card here and instead of buying groceries or other stuff I’m always buying at Target I bought a book! Yay! It was 20% off already but the cartwheel app had it for an additional 25% off so in total I got it for 45% off. Which is in fact a steal in my book.

the savage song.jpg

The Savage Song By Victoria Schwab-All I really know about this book is that it has two charcters who live in a city. One is a human and the other is a monster who is rare. He can steal people soul I think by singing. Also both their people or group are at war with each other. What got me was what is written on the back of the book

Corsai, Corsai,

tooth and claw,

Shadow and bone

will eat you raw.

Malchai, Malchai,

sharp and sly,

smile and bite

and drink you dry.

eyes like coal,

sing you a song

and steal your soul.

monsters, monsters,

big and small,

they’re gonna come

and eat you all.

The number one place I normally get my books from is Half-Price Books. I feel like I go to both locations in my city because I feel like I go there twice a week and I don’t like it when people recognize me. I know I’m a weirdo. Plus if  I don’t have to pay full price for a book I don’t. Sometimes I find diamonds in  the ruff there which is great. I found a signed copy of The Archived by Victoria Swab once! Talk about Luck! Plus The send some the most awesome coupons! For example for my birthday they sent a 15%off your whole purchase. Wasn’t that nice of them!

Half-Price Books

Gone By Michael Grant-I have seen so many different editions of this book and I always picked it up but never had the nerve to buy it. I saw this and it looks so new that I decided to go ahead and get it. It’s about how everyone except for teens middle schoolers and toddlers are left behind. All the adults are GONE. No teachers, parents, police, doctors, etc. Also no electronic are working. It’s like a post apocalyptic vibe to it and I’m excited to dive in and read it.

People Of The Book by Geraldine Brooks- This book is about a book expert who have been given a opportunity to study a book from Bosnian War.  The book is one of the first Jewish volumes. It’s inspire by a true story and I think that is why I picked it up. Also it has won a Pulitzer Prize.

The Sin-Eater Daughter by Melinda Salisbury- I am the perfect weapon. I kill with a single touch. WOW! those line got me hook and I had to buy it. The gods have chosen her to marry a prince, and rule the kingdom, but a deadly poison infuses her skin. Tho who anger the queen must die under Twylla’s fatal touch. I feel like this is such a interesting read that I won’t know what happens next.

and i darken.jpg

And I Darken By Kirsten White-I’m not 100 percent sure what this book is about, but I know it a retelling and that most people love it. I kinda want to go into this book blind because I know that I will enjoy it more. Plus the Cover is freakin amazing.

A Series of Unfortunate events-The Reptile Room By Lemony Snicket – I read these as a kid and now that netflix has its show coming out I want to relieve the books. I already have the first one so when I saw the second one, I just had to have.

The Reading Habits Tag

I saw this on Read and Treats.

Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

I tend to read on my bed a lot. Especially now that I have a noise-free free bed. Also I tend to read when I first wake up in the morning and when I go to bed.

Bookmark or random piece of paper?

I have a ton of bookmarks. I tend to loose all the beading on them and the strings that are on them. But I love good nerdy quote bookmarks. My current favorite has to be my doctor who one.

Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/ a certain amount of pages?

I can stop reading anywhere in a book, I just don’t like to. It really annoys me, so I try my hardest to read as much as I can and finish the chapter. After all the author too the time to divided the book that way, so we could have breaks. Right?

Do you eat or drink while reading?

I try not to, but I do it all the time. I mostly drink tea or coke. If I’m drinking coke then I’m most definitely eating chips and salsa.

Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?

I can’t do this at all or I get lost in what I’m trying to read. Sometimes I’m reading a book and Matthew comes in and turns on the t.v. and it’s a new show, I put my book down because I can’t concentrate.

One book at a time or several at once?

.One book at a time. There are sometimes where I read two at a time, but they have to be two completely different genres or I can’t tell which story is which.

Reading at home or everywhere?

I’m sure I was Rory Gilmore in one of my past life. (I don’t think that is a thing) I carry a book with me EVERYWHERE! I just like to have the option to read if I wanted to.

Reading out loud or silently in your head?

I read silently in my head. I don’t want to disturb people around me. I hate when people disturb me. Especially when I’m reading.

Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

Okay, some people might think I’m weird or say how could you? I sometimes read the last page of the book I am currently reading. I just like to know how it ends. I hate cliffhangers.

Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

I try my hardest to not break the spine. I like to keep my books as nice as possible. I have been know to not get books at half price books that I want just because their spine is broken pretty bad.

Do you write in your books?

Never! This is just as bad, and perhaps worse than dog earring a book. If I like a quote really badly I will stick a post it note in the book.

I tag everyone! Because you know you want to!

Why I decided to blog

Why did I decided to start this blog? Well I have been reading book blogs and watching booktube for years but have always been afraid to start one of my own. 2016 was such a great year for me. Reading wise that is. My goal was to read 40 books and I surpass it and read 61 books. I swear I carried a book everywhere just in case I had time to enjoy it. Half of 2016 was just stressful for me that I think that it is why I read so much. Reading was my escape from the real world. So with that I feel like I want to share my love and joy of books with others. So that is how Belem’s Bookshelf was born.

I’m not the worlds best writer. I write like I talk, or so I’m told. English is hard when it isn’t the first language you speak. Although I don’t have an accent and there are some words that are hard for me to say I think I do an okay job at speaking and writing. Hopefully by writing this blog I can get better at it. I feel like reading has helped a lot. i see it between my siblings and I.  I have the better English vocabulary.

I hope that this blog will also help me stay accountable on my book goals and reading list. Last year  I had one and I stuck a paper to one of my bookshelf so I could read what was on my list and I didn’t do it. So maybe because I have it out in the world I will actually stick to it. Wishful thinking right?

Well I will leave it at that. Let me know what you think?

I’m going to make my TBR for this month rather short. I don’t want set my goal high just in case I don’t complete it, but if I do then I can choose whatever I feel like reading. I’m not the fastest reader or the slowest, but I read for pleasure. It makes me happy and it keeps me sain in this crazy world.

I’m very much ashamed that I haven’t read this book series, but I have watched all the movies. I try my hardest to read books before I go watch the movies, but when Divergent came out my life was a mess and I just didn’t have time to read much. I know it’s just an excuse, but none the less it was a very stressful and trying year. I’m just so excited to finally read it and see how Trice sees her world in Divergent and I can already tell that I am going to love Four. I mean he is pretty good looking in the movies.

I’m hoping since it’s a series that I read them pretty fast considering that I’m going to want to know what happens next. I hate when books end in cliff hangers and the next book isn’t out yet. So in a way this is a blessing in disguise I’m not going to have to wait for the next one. I already have them all.

If I finish the divergent series and I hope I do. I would like to start reading three dark crowns. My lovely boyfriend got it for me for Christmas because it was one book that I really wanted but I just couldn’t pay almost $20 for it. I hear it is amazing and I just can’t wait to jump in and read it.

I would love your thoughts and opinions on the divergent series. Think I can finish this series in a month? What are you reading this month? I would love to know.

2017 Reading Goal

One of the first things I do every new year is set a reading goal. Goodreads is one of my favorite ways to start it. 2016 was a great year for my reading goal. My goal was to read 40 books and I surpassed it and read 61 books. I was in shocked that I read that much, but at the same time I’m very proud of myself. Now that 2017 is here, I need to decided how many books I plan on reading  as well as what kind of books I want to read. My goal for 2017 is to read 50 books. If I surpass it great, if not, that’s okay too. Now my reading goals or challenges. Whatever floats your boat.

  • A book with multiply authors
  • A book published in 2017
  • A book with a red spine
  • A book at the bottom of my TBR pile
  • A book that was turned into a movie
  • A book with pictures in it
  • A book with set in the past
  • A book that everyone has read but you
